Trademark registration cost by country in 2026

Short answer

Official trademark fees in 2026 start at about 350 USD per class at the USPTO, 850 EUR for one class at the EUIPO and 170 GBP for one class in the UK. Attorney fees, where needed, come on top. Fees below come from each office.

  • Most offices charge per class, so the class list drives the cost.
  • Official fees are paid directly to the office, not to Trademarking.
  • Fees change; each figure links to the office fee page.

What makes up the total

  • Official filing fee, usually for the first class.
  • Fee for each additional class.
  • Surcharges, such as the USPTO surcharge for free-form goods and services text.
  • Representative fees where the office requires local representation.
  • Later costs: renewal every 10 years, declarations of use in the US, opposition if a conflict arises.

How to keep the cost down

File only in classes you really use or will use soon, and take wording from the office lists to avoid surcharges. Check conflicts before filing, because a refused application keeps the fee. The Nice class guide helps with the class choice.

Selling in several countries? A Madrid international application can be cheaper than separate national filings once you cover three or more markets.

Your plan versus official fees

Trademarking plans start at 49 USD per month billed yearly and cover search, filing preparation, monitoring and portfolio tools. Office fees are separate and paid by you to the office. See trademark registration for what preparation includes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to register a trademark?
Filing directly with one office, in one class, with standard wording from the office list. For the US that is 350 USD per class in official fees as of 2026.
Are official fees refundable if the application is refused?
Generally no. Offices keep the filing fee once examination starts, which is why a search before filing pays off.
Why does the USPTO charge per class while the EUIPO includes the first class?
Each office sets its own structure. The EUIPO basic fee includes one class, the second costs 50 EUR and each further class 150 EUR.
Do these fees include an attorney?
No. They are official office fees only. Attorney fees vary by firm and country.

General information as of 2026, not legal advice. Trademarking is not a law firm. Official fees are set by each office and paid to the office directly.
